Research
There are many excellent behaviour clinicians and trainers who find the world of research daunting and intimidating. If you are looking for personal mentoring support with undertaking a research project in companion animal behaviour or welfare, I may be able to help you. Whether your research is part of a formal qualification (e.g. residency, online course, etc) or simply something you would like to pursue, I am interested in helping individuals generate meaningful findings, which are of a publishable standard. To me, undertaking collaborative research is a very personal endeavour, and so it is important that we click as a team. I am more interested in working with individuals with good practical skills, an inquiring mind, attention to detail and a willingness to learn than qualifications.
For those seeking a research degree qualification, I am also able to guide individuals towards university-based supervisors. You will however need your own funding and if you would like to work under my guidance this will involve a cost beyond standard university fees.
Please contact me directly at Daniel@companionanimalconsulting.com if you would like to discuss one of these opportunities further. You are also strongly encouraged to sign up to my notifications to ensure you are kept informed of developments as this scheme develops.
Internships
I am currently developing a remote internship scheme for those interested in developing themselves as practitioners (veterinary or non-veterinary) in clinical animal behaviour. You will need to be either a veterinarian or an individual with at least 3 years’ experience in animal training/behaviour modification with a degree level education.
The programme will involve developing and agreeing a bespoke development plan adapted to your circumstances. Training will involve a blend of asynchronous and live activities. You will be provided with essential resources and guided in a range of learning and skill development tasks. Because this is a bespoke mentoring opportunity focused on your personal growth, there is no formal qualification associated with the programme. You will however be provided with a personal certificate should you successfully complete the agreed programme.

Residencies
Veterinary residency in behavioural medicine (alternative residency programme)
I have a small number of opportunities to supervise residents remotely who are seeking recognition as a European Veterinary Specialist in Behavioural Medicine by the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (Dip ECAWBM(BM)). Residents will normally start their programme on January 1st and to complete within 3 years (full time). They are responsible for their own case load which must meet the requirements of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine.
To date I have supervised the following successful candidates: Dr Christos Karagiannis, Dr Nadja Affenzeller, Dr Kevin McPeake, who have al become pioneers in their home countries. In addition, Dr Beverley Wilson and Dr Himara van Haevermaet have successfully completed their residencies with me at Lincoln and are awaiting examination; Dr Francesca Gualgliumi is currently completing her residency at Lincoln under my supervision.
Please ensure you are familiar with the eligibility requirements for residents before contacting me directly at Daniel@companionanimalconsulting.com if you would like to discuss this opportunity further.
